Tor Browser Launches on Android Without Built-in Proxy

Tor Project releases alpha version of mobile Tor browser for Android devices with multi-layer encryption

Internet censorship has intensified in many regions, which prompted developers to accelerate work on a mobile version of the browser starting last year. An alpha version is now available, featuring multi-layer encryption and anonymity—advertising networks won't be able to determine your location. When the stable version of Tor Browser for Android launches, it will include a built-in proxy. For now, you'll need to use the third-party Orbot application.

The alpha version is currently available on Google Play or the official website. The first stable release is scheduled for January 2019.

Tor Browser for Android Features

Tor was designed to create an "isolated cocoon" when visiting websites, preventing ad networks from tracking your real location and serving targeted ads. Once you leave a page, all cookies are automatically cleared.

Once the proxy server is implemented, the browser will completely hide which sites you visit. Anyone trying to monitor your activity will only see that you're using Tor Browser. Additionally, unified information about your browser and device will be displayed. This means attackers won't know which specific mobile device you're using or what version of the operating system you have.

Tor Android

Once you launch the browser, all your transmitted and received data will be encrypted three times and routed through a network consisting of thousands of computers. With Tor Browser, you'll gain access to websites previously blocked in your region.

But is the free proxy option really that good for Android phones and tablets?

According to Rocket VPN specialists, when you need serious protection and privacy, there's only one choice: a paid service.

Benefits of Using Paid VPN on Android:

  1. Speed – When launching the browser on your Android device, you expect fast photo loading on social networks and smooth YouTube streaming. Free solutions can't deliver this because data passes through numerous computers, significantly reducing speed. We recommend connecting to our service to enjoy fast internet while staying completely secure.
  2. Privacy. We use encryption methods approved and deployed by the U.S. military. This encryption protocol is unbreakable, guaranteeing your privacy—all data is encrypted with no decryption key available.
  3. Free is good, but not for VPN. Only a paid service can provide 24/7 uninterrupted internet access with all data encrypted and protected from eavesdropping and cyberattacks. Subscribe to Rocket VPN for just $5 per month and enjoy truly secure internet.
